Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership
Camera Stats
History
- Speed and red light enforcement cameras have been in use in the Thames Valley region since 1992.
- There are currently over 300 fixed enforcement sites in Thames Valley. 91% of those sites are on 30 or 40 mph restricted roads. There are none on 70 mph roads.
- Around two-thirds of all road crashes where people are killed or injured happen on roads where the speed limit is 30mph or less.
- Seven out of ten drivers regularly break the speed limit on these roads usually by about 5mph.
Many of the sites have been in operation for years and have achieved good casualty reductions. Even where casualties are low they continue to provide protection and are fiercely protected by local communities.
