Q. Isn’t it more dangerous for me to be constantly checking my speedometer?
A. Checking your speed is no more dangerous than checking your side and rear mirrors, and forms part of the driving test.
Q. How can I be sure what the speed limit is?
A. Any single lane road with street lights or in a built up area, is a 30mph road unless you see signs which specifically tell you otherwise. See the home page for more information on how the national speed limit applies to different vehicle types.
Q. There is a lot of debate about how speed effects crash rates; what are the facts?
A. Excessive speed is a factor in 28% of fatal crashes. The faster you are travelling, the less reaction and braking time you have, and the impact will be greater if you hit something. Put simply, at lower speeds, you have a better chance of walking away from a crash.
