Hi Vis school bags introduced to schools

You can't miss St Mary's pupils on thier way to school.

Hi visibility school bags are now being sighted on the way to and from a Maidenhead school.  St Mary’s Catholic school are the first school to take up the ‘bright’ scheme to ensure that their pupils are easily seen by drivers on their way to and from school.

The idea came from the Royal Borough’s road safety officer who wanted to find a way to get school children to wear hi vis clothing.  Introducing a school back pack that could be used by all pupils meant that children wouldn’t feel singled out as they did when their parents made them wear a hi vis jacket.  The pupils like the bags and are happy to use them as their school bag.  These bags can be seen from quite a distance.

The bags cost no more than a normal back pack and are printed up with the school’s logo in a reflective print.

All schools within the Royal Borough are encouraged to take up the scheme.  To find out more about how to get your school involved in the scheme, contact Imogen Leonard by emailing imogen.leonard@rbwm.gov.uk or call 01628 796943.
