Its More Than Your Licence That Is At Risk

A Banbury taxi driver has been given community service and been banned from driving for making two false declarations.

Magistrates in Banbury handed out a sentence of 200 hours community service and a 3 month driving ban to the Banbury taxi driver on Friday after he had tried to avoid a speeding ticket.

The court heard how 24 year old Talib Hussain had tried to avoid prosecution for speeding on two occasions (each offence would have carried a £60 fixed penalty and 3 point endorsement on his licence) by declaring that someone else had been driving the car at the time.

After further investigation and a review of the photographic evidence the driver was arrested and charged on Thursday.

PC Pat Knight, the arresting officer, commented:

“Some drivers are trying to avoid the points on their licence, but do not realise that they are committing very serious offences in doing so.  You can be charged with perjury and face a very serious criminal conviction by trying to buck the system.  In this case the taxi driver will almost certainly have his taxi licence revoked, losing his livelihood as well as his driving licence.”

Dan Campsall, Communication Manager explained

“The Police are using the evidence collected from safety cameras to identify unlicensed drivers, cloned cars, persistent offenders and other criminal behaviour on the road.  We would urge drivers not to risk hefty fines or even imprisonment for trying to avoid a speeding ticket.
This case demonstrates that the courts will take these matters seriously and deal with them quickly.”
