Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership & Thames Valley Police have been jointly awarded a prestigious international award for the pioneering Young Driver Scheme.
Dealing with the tragically high levels of road death and injury amongst the under 25s requires not only creative & innovative solutions, but also effective ones. The approach of the Thames Valley Young Driver Scheme builds on the best academic research, market leading innovations in educational delivery and a strong partnership approach to tackle the problem; with encouraging results.
The Young Driver Scheme is the UK’s first driver offender rehabilitation scheme that targets a particular demographic group rather than defining groups based on vehicle use or offending behaviour.
The Young Driver Scheme was born out of a broad based multi-agency partnership which has enabled the scheme to become solidly innovative, widely utilised (well over 4,000 course attendees), rigorously evaluated, and strongly supported by the public, academic and commercial sector partners that helped develop the scheme.
