Vehicle Activated Signs
In the last few years 62 Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS) have been installed on roads within West Berkshire. VAS are electronic road signs that are triggered by an approaching vehicle to warn that the driver is going too fast or because of a hazard ahead.

VAS are introduced at sites, which comply with the VAS Policy that can found in the downloads section and they consist of the following:
- 30 mph with Slow Down,
- 40 mph with Slow Down,
- Road Narrows with Slow Down,
- Roundabout with Slow Down,
- Junction with Slow Down,
- Bend with Slow Down.
West Berkshire Council also has a number of mobile VAS which displays the speed limit with Slow Down. These are used at sites normally for a period of one week, where results of traffic surveys have shown that vehicles are consistently speeding. Should further survey results show that vehicles continue to speed then the location will be subject to a speed enforcement check.
