Road Safety in School

Children under 9 can’t judge how fast vehicles are going or how far away they are. They depend on parents’ help to teach them road safety skills.

Our Road Safety Team loans out a variety of teaching aids. These include a zebra crossing mat, a child’s lollipop outfit and sign, books, games, Streetfeet – includes roads, signs and role play tabards. Contact the Road Safety Officer on 0118 974 6387 to discuss availability of road safety resources.

Schools are also sent a resources catalogue where they can order posters, leaflets, etc.

Twice a year in Wokingham schools we also run a theatre in education tour of the Louis Taylor road safety show. Louis Taylor is an entertainer who interlinks magic, drama and puppets to  help children remember important road safety messages.

Characters such as Billy Beacon remind children to Stop, Look, Listen and Think.  Children are also advised on how to use different types of crossings, how to cross with a school crossing patroller and the importance of wearing a cycle helmet.  Contact the Road Safety Officer on 0118 974 6387 if your school is interested in holding a road safety theatre show.
